Why I decided to left social media
Over the last few years, I tried to build my brand and be the best IT Consultant possible.
I had a real company and even employed one person (for a short period).
The thing is that in my case it wasn't worth the effort. I'm not a businessman, I like clients, and I like helping them, but marketing or self-promotion is too hard for me, and my results were under expectations. As you may know, or not during last year I had:
- newsletter
- tech blog
- active LinkedIn account
- tried to use Twitter and Reddit
The newsletter at the peak had ~40 subscribers, didn't generate any leads, and I need to spend at least one hour Sunday evening/Monday morning, on editing and adjusting my content. Due that, I decided to close it.
The tech blog under blog.3sky.dev is great. No revenue, no leads, but due to this I was able to become an AWS Community Builder, meet great people, and grow as a specialist. Also tech writing is awesome, I really enjoy it.
LinkedIn, really I tried to get as many `likes` or comments as possible. Was it worth it? I don't think so, recently I have done a small 2-3 months break from this portal. Did I miss something? I don't know, but probably it wasn't such important. What about the job market you can ask? All jobs I have or had I found by accident on the "Who is hiring" thread, or over the company page because I just wanted to work there.
What about Twitter/Reddit/Facebook/Instagram/TikTok? So, I'm not very active there, and my FOMO sleeps well. Even If I'm not aware of the wedding of my colleagues from primary school, or I can't go over holiday photos of my coworkers. I'm just fine.
With that in mind, you can ask how to contact me. It's simple:
- use my phone number (the older I become, the more I prefer voice conversation)
- use my temporary mailbox [email protected]
- look at this blog, from time to time I will post non-tech-related content
- meet me in person at conferences, on a walk, or go with me on lunch
See you there!
